How To Prevent Pigmentation Treatment During Pregnancy?

Pigmentation During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, the oestrogen level rises in our body assisting development of tissues for both the foetus and the mother. The sudden surge in the level of oestrogen stimulates the production of melanin excessively. This is also termed as hyper pigmentation. Now, what is melanin? Well, this is a dark coloured pigment that provides the skin with its natural colour. Excessive production of melanin during the period of pregnancy leads to skin pigmentation in various parts of the body, including neck, face, armpits and abdomen.

Now ,let’s find out how you can protect your skin from pigmentation during pregnancy:-

  • Stay away from windows
  • Do not expose yourself during the sunny days
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Protective accessories and clothing are a must
  • Follow a specific diet and proper lifestyle

Enhance the level of progesterone

Progesterone and oestrogen are the two essential hormones that are produced in the body of a woman. The former hormone acts as the antagonist oestrogen hormone. It means that if the level of any one of these hormones increases, the level of the other hormone will decrease.

The question is how can one increase the progesterone level?

Increase the consumption of foods that are high in vitamin C, vitamin B6 and contain magnesium as well as high fibre. Some of the foods include oats, mangoes, berries, legumes, apple, plums, tangerine, pineapple, melon, potato, grapefruit, cauliflower and broccoli. Squash and pumpkin seeds, spinach, whole grain, cereals, raw plantain, nuts and black beans are good sources of magnesium. The sources of vitamin B6 include seafood, fortified cereals, lean, red meat, walnuts, whole grain and spinach.

However ,one has to keep in mind to avoid foods they have previously been allergic to.

Do not use expired facial products

Avoid using any kind of concealer and makeup that can lead to further skin irritation, redness, blemishes or any kind of allergy. Also, check the expiry date of the makeup before using. Expired skin products can further exaggerate the skin pigmentation.

Hopefully, the tips that we have shared above with you will help you to avoid pigmentation during the best year of your life. But there is nothing to worry about because pigmentation as it is will go away eventually after delivery in 90% cases. It is advisable that you avoid taking medicines which claim to reduce the pigmentation marks, especially during this sensitive condition. If you have a problem related to skin pigmentation, it is always better to consult a skin specialist. In rare cases, pigmentation does not go away on its own even after delivery. In that case, you need to visit the doctor and undergo the required medications.
