5. Do not use weapons for which it will be difficult for you to obtain ammunition (for example, an AK-47 or a "typical" assault rifle during the first few missions), or weapons that share their ammunition with others (like a pistol and an UZI) - this will quickly run out of bullets and you will get two Useless weapon compartments that will make you more vulnerable to enemy attacks.
6. Adapt your weapons depending on the situation. There is no point in shooting the enemy from the other side of the screen using a shotgun, as you will have to use multiple bullets to destroy it.
7. Watch where you're shooting. The game has a huge number of different objects that explode violently after being shot - most often the explosion is the size of an entire screen or consumes a number of buildings. A bullet can hit an enemy, or it can do the same to you when you eventually blow up the building you currently reside in.
8. The same goes for explosives, mainly hand grenades and rocket launchers (like a Molotov cocktail, since the fire itself does almost no damage to the player) - these two weapons are extremely powerful weapons, but sometimes they can do more harm than good (for example, destroying the shelter that separated you from groups of armed enemies). Use them with extreme caution.
9. Complete side quests. In addition to the obvious rewards such as bulletproof vests and a large number of different weapons (or explosives), side quests allow you to unlock special respawn points, and you can start playing if your character is killed during the mission. If you don't have any unlocked respawn points or you've already exhausted them all, you'll have to start the mission from the beginning after you die - some of them take more than half an hour, which means that sudden death without a choice to continue can be a painful experience.
10. Remember that the game uses an advanced physics engine that translates into (sort of) realistic destruction effects - instead of, for example, running around the building in search of an entrance, you can simply "make" your own entrance by blowing up the wall with a rocket launcher or grenade.
11. Adjust the difficulty level according to your playing style. There's no point trying to be a badass and play at the highest, extreme difficulty level when you'll die about 50 times to complete a single mission.
12. Collect ammo from fallen enemies. It doesn't automatically replenish when you reach a checkpoint (which, frankly, is not enough in the game) and discover that you have run out of ammo when you are surrounded by a dozen enemies, which may turn out to be bad.
