Your skin is a direct reflection of everything you put on and into your body.

Since you are what you eat , this old idiom is being increasingly proven to be very precise and correct and we, at Sparsh Clinic, are all about a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle, these are a few of our favourite (healthy!) foods for healthy skin:

Almonds.

A handful a day keeps the wrinkles at bay! Almonds are packed with Vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps to protect against free radicals while preventing premature aging.

Avocado.

A rich source of Vitamins C and E, lutein and good-for-you fats that provide anti-inflammatory and anti-aging benefits. It’s a go-to for a boost in the glow department.

Blueberries.

It is a good idea from aestheticians to start their mornings with a serving (or two!). Blueberries are said to be the greatest food source for antioxidants – they offer anti-aging prevention that is too good not to try. The rich antioxidants will have a good sun protection ability

Carrots.

Carrots are great for your complexion. Incorporating carrots into your diet is said to not only help clear breakouts, but also help stimulate collagen synthesis – all thanks to the high Vitamin A and C content in carrots. The darker the carrot the better it is , don’t forget the traditional Kanji made in north india with the purple or dark carrots to be a good detox for the gut.

Green Tea.

So it’s not a food, per se, but it’s the antioxidant powerhouse of all drinks (second to water). It is also a diuretic, meaning it can help flush out toxins for a clearer, healthier complexion over time. There is a word of caution for green tea though that all body types it may not work the same way. For certain body types like pitta type in imbalance it may not be a good idea to use it. And also we will strongly advice not to use it as a treatment for weight loss alone without proper medical attention and advice.

Oranges.

Yet another antioxidant-rich food. A high Vitamin C content means a helpful boost in neutralizing free radicals and helping collagen production. Here again according to the ayurvedic physicians it is considered a sour fruit and best avoided by pitta people and by people with high levels of gastric acidity based problems.

Salmon.

Our diets are often lacking in omega-3 fats (but overcompensating in omega-6 fats). This imbalance leads to inflammation those later blocks pores and triggers overproduction of oil. Because salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, this fish is said to be one of the best foods for helping prevent breakouts. There are different schools of thought it is a good source but processing and heavy metal pollution have put a question mark to this. Also not to forget that desi ghee is also a great source of omega and other fatty acids

Spinach.

It is not called a superfood – or a favourite of Popeye – without reason. Loaded with minerals and antioxidants, this leafy green is high in the Vitamin C needed for collagen and elastin production. There are many people increasingly having spinach raw or kale in juices this is not a great idea unless under expert supervision and in certain specific practices as it can aggravate gastric peristalsis related problems and spinach is known to interfere in absorption of certain nutrients from the intestine , not only that some people with specific types of kidney stones are advised against it.

Walnuts.

For a dewy, hydrated glow, walnuts are your go-to because of their high Alpha-Linolenic Acid content. They are also a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. These days indeed are great in taste too. Just watch for allergies. Practically for kids who don’t like then one can make pesto paste with walnuts as a sauce or dip or curry for pasta, that way everyone loves the taste and gets the nutrition too.

Keep munching mindfully and according to your body type. Be your own guru and understand your body better.
